Greers Ferry Lake is a large reservoir created by an impoundment of the Little Red River near the towns of Tumbling Shoals and Heber Springs. Located at the eastern edge of the Ozark Mountains the surrounding area consists of hardwood and evergreen forest and agricultural lands. This portion of the lake is accessed from Cherokee Recreation Area and is characterized by a large expanse of open water, long winding arms and a few small coves and two large islands nearby. The shoreline in this area hosts fairly extensive development and a nearby airport.
