The Ouachita National Recreation Trail runs for over two hundred miles from Oklahoma to Lake Maumelle in Arkansas. The trail takes you through dense hardwood and evergreen forest and over and along many mountain ridges. This section of the trail begins near the western end of Lake Maumelle and roughly parallels the northern shoreline of the lake through lush countryside to Pinnacle Mountain State Park. Given the length of this leg of trail it is best enjoyed as an over-nighter. This is a one-way adventure so a shuttle vehicle is necessary; it can be linked with the next leg of the trail for a long through hike.
