Along the Front Range is a rock outcrop known as Hogsback; Devil's Backbone is a prominent spiny section of this outcrop that lies in the middle of open grasslands. The ocean origin of Hogsback reveals that there was once an ancient sea, much older than the Rocky Mountains, that covered an area of Colorado. This trail loops along the east side of the outcrop through an open grasslands filled with shrubs.
