Engineer Pass is also part of the Alpine Loop and has awesome scenery as well as some significant mining history. This mapped trail begins near the city of Ouray and goes almost 30 miles to Lake City, CO. It can be done in either direction. There are multiple mine ruins along the way that are worth stopping for. The trail is pretty mild with a few rocky sections and boulders. Stock SUVs will be ok. There is a lot of ATV/UTV traffic so take caution of other riders.
