Ptarmigan Peak Trail begins by climbing the hillside through an open meadow with sagebrush and wildflowers in June. Beyond the meadow, the trail winds through an aspen grove and a thick forest of evergreens that briefly obscure views yet give a sense of remoteness. The final stretch to the summit climbs along a grassy ridge where elk herds are often found grazing. On this trail you'll find views of Gorge Range, Ten Mile Range, Dillon Reservoir, and the lower Blue River Valley.
