Windy Peak Loop | Jefferson County, Colorado

Within the 14,000 acres of Golden Gate Canyon State Park is an area known as Forgotten Valley where remnants of an old homestead still lie below Windy Peak. This trail climbs the hillside and crosses Ralston Creek as it continues to gradually ascends through a forest of ponderosa pines mixed with pockets of aspen groves and small meadows to Forgotten Valley. From the homestead, the trail weaves in and out of a mixed forest to the rock outcrop on top of the summit where you'll find views of the surrounding area before winding back through the forest and returning to the trailhead.
