Allison Lake is in the middle of Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge. This is a great spot to enjoy the Piedmont scenery while lounging in a canoe. Adding to the beauty are loblolly pine and bottom-land hardwood forests which line the shores. In an effort to increase the population of wood ducks in the area, nest boxes for have been placed all around the lake and are visible from the trail. Wildlife to look for in this area includes fox, turkeys, deer and a variety of birds. An information pamphlet is available at the trailhead kiosk. As well, Allison Lake, although part of a wildlife refuge allows fishing, so bring your poles.
