Cathead Creek offers a mild, tidal paddling experience with great swamp scenery and a variety of wildlife. The shores of the creek are lined with wax myrtle, cypress, sweet gum and pine trees, all draped in Spanish moss. Parts of the paddle wind through the Altamaha State Waterfowl Management Area, which speaks to the variety of waterfowl that can be viewed on this adventure; alligators are among some of the other wildlife that may be seen. There are old rice-canals beginning at around mile 3.6 that offer a swifter current and shorter paddle if desired.
