Don Carter State Park is situated on the northern end of Lake Lanier, a 38,000-acre lake that offers abundant opportunity for recreation including boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, and camping. The state park features a primitive walk-in camping area. The 12 tent-only sites are equipped with small prep tables, fire pits, and grills. Drinking water and portable toilets are available at the parking area. The state park amenities also include hiking trails, beach access areas, a boat ramp, playgrounds, and more. The primitive sites are $20 per night and can be reserved up until the time of arrival. A family campground and rental cottages are available in other areas of the park.
