In the middle of the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, the Suwannee Canal offers a pleasant, family friendly paddle. The canal is bordered by oaks, Ogeechee lime and pines all draped in Spanish moss, creating canopies in areas of the paddle. The insects can be brutal in the summer, particularly the yellow flies, so prepare accordingly. Be aware that there is an Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge entrance fee and that you must sign a log upon entering and exiting the canal.
