The Suwannee River, originating from the Okefenokee Swamp, empties into the Gulf of Mexico after running 235 miles, going southwest through Georgia before going on to Florida . This portion of the river is beautiful and generally calm, but does have a couple of swift-running, cypress tree lined, narrow parts. At the end of the day, this adventure offers a moderately swift, narrow black-water stream with superlative scenery. Be aware that there is a free permit that you need to pick up from the state park office in order to cross the Suwannee River Sill.
