Watson Pond, in the middle to George L. Smith State Park, offers a beautiful marked (2” by 2” nailed metal markers) water-trail which winds through Ogeechee lime and cypress trees. It will be important for you to follow the markers because it is easy to get lost among the maze of moss-draped swamp trees. The best time to paddle Watson Pond is during the spring-time; otherwise the water levels are low and will make navigation a bit more difficult. Be aware that there is a Georgia Parks Pass entry fee and that there are paddle-boats and canoes that are available for rent. Also, make note that the Red trail and Blue Trail are the ones utilized on this adventure.
