This forest preserve offers lots of opportunity for recreation and great wildlife viewing as it contains a dedicated Illinois Nature Preserve with a bird observatory and restored sand prairie. This hike follows pedestrian trails within the preserve to complete a scenic loop that explores the diverse terrain passing multiple spots excellent for birdwatching and viewing the river. There is also a spur trail that leads down to the Sugar River which is a great spot for fishing and paddling.
