The Embarras River travels through mostly forested farmland terrain that is very peaceful and remote. The river is wide and flat so the flow is very mild and slow. The water can also be shallow in some sections and may require some portaging or dragging of boats during times of low water levels. This section of the river starts just south of Lake Charleston and continues on to Fox Ridge State Park. The river does continue on for many more miles with multiple access spots for paddlers looking for a longer trip.
