This hike utilizes multiple trails within the Fort Sheridan Forest Preserve to complete an educational and scenic tour through the historic Fort Sheridan. The trails lead through open grasslands, dense woodlands, and down along the shores of Lake Michigan. The diverse vegetation of the area offers great wildlife viewing and birdwatching opportunity. The trail surfaces vary depending on where in the preserve you are hiking but all of the trails are open to hikers, joggers, and cross-country skiers. There is only one short section of asphalt trail called the Lake Michigan Trail that is open to bicyclers.
