Herrick Lake provides an excellent backdrop for outdoor recreation and beautiful scenery. Utilizing multiple trails within the preserve, hikers can travel through diverse types of vegetation that include dense woodlands, wetlands, and prairies, all of which are home to a variety of wildlife and birdlife. The trails are open for hikers, bikers, horseback riders, and cross-country skiers. There are multiple connecting trails and spur trails that can provide visitors with multiple hiking options. The preserve also offers picnic areas, fishing, and non-motorized boating at the lake.
