Covering the I&M Canal Trail from Joliet to Channahon is a nice section that offers a lot of diverse scenery in a short half-day ride. The ride travels through open rural land, wooded terrain, industrial areas, and residential neighborhoods on its way to the scenic Channahon State Park. The ride follows the canal all along the way providing opportunity for birdwatching and wildlife viewing. The ride is almost completely flat along the way and is crushed gravel surface so wider tires are recommended for road bikes. The I&M Canal Trail continues on for many more miles providing riders with numerous trip options.
