This short loop trail takes hikers through marshes, prairies, and an area of sand dunes as it follows a small river and leads to the shores of Lake Michigan. The Dead River Trail is only open to hikers and is an easy remote trail making it a good choice for hikers of all levels. The spur trail leading down to Lake Michigan provides a good spot to stop and relax on the beach. There are also good birdwatching opportunities along the trail, especially during the winter. The trail is accessible from sunrise to 8 p.m.
