This historic trail leads visitors past remnants of an old iron-making operation from the 19th century that has been preserved as part of the Des Plaines River Preservation System. The first section of the hike follows an interpretive loop trail with posted information regarding the history of the site. The Joliet Iron Works Heritage Trail does continue on past the historic site and follows the canal for over 10 more miles giving hikers the option of adding more mileage. The trails are all paved and fully accessible.
