The section of the Kishwaukee River between Cherry Valley and Atwood Park is one of the most popular for paddling due to miles of continuous wooded banks that provide lots of solitude and opportunity for wildlife viewing. The river runs through multiple forest preserves that have helped to preserve the natural setting and environment along the river. The river only has mild elevation drop along this section keeping the waters calm and easy for paddlers of all skill levels. There are multiple access sites located along the route, some being located in forest preserves that make good alternate take-out/rest spots with amenities like picnic areas and hiking trails.
