Lakewood Forest Preserve is located about 45 miles from downtown Chicago and offers miles of trail systems that can be used for a variety of recreational activities. This loop hike follows some of the popular equestrian trails in the southern end of the preserve to complete a scenic loop hike through areas of open prairies, savannas, marshes, and multiple small lakes. There are lots of connecting trails within the preserve providing numerous hiking options. The wide dirt trail is commonly used by equestrians so be sure to watch for them and allow them the right-of-way.
