Located 40 miles from Chicago, Long Lake provides lots of opportunity for enjoying the outdoors by canoeing and kayaking on the lake. Long Lake is one of many in the region and is less-crowded than a lot of the other lakes in the area making it a good option for paddling. The suburban lake is mostly surrounded by residential neighborhoods with the exception of the northern side which is part of the Grant Woods Forest Preserve. The lake is very popular with sailboats and yachts so pay close attention to larger boats on the lake. The lake also offers good fishing.
