Mazon River, a tributary of the Illinois River, offers paddlers a nice floating experience down a scenic river with some riffles and rapids along the way adding a little excitement to the trip. The river runs through wooded terrain with lots of cliffs and rock formations along the shoreline that make for interesting scenery. There are not a lot of obstructions but paddlers do need to watch out for lots of rocks that require skillful navigation. The river is mainly floatable during the springtime when water levels are ideal. The put-in and take-out for this run are not very convenient and require some portaging but the extra work is worthwhile for a run down the river.
