Starting just northwest from the city of Pontiac, this section of the North Vermilion River is wide with lots of bends and an easy flow making it a great option for beginner paddlers. The scenery includes lots of limestone bluffs and cliffs with wooded shoreline and a nature preserve that provides good opportunity for wildlife viewing. There are lots of sand bars and low rock shelves on this section of river that can provide good resting spots. The put-in and take-out points do not provide lots of amenities but they are easily accessible and do provide some area for parking. There is also an an access point at Humiston Woods that makes for a good resting spot or alternate take-out.
