Located just southeast of Rockford, Oak Ridge offers miles of mowed grass and dirt trails that travel along lush riparian river banks, dense woodlands, and open prairies home to abundant wildlife. This hike utilizes multiple trails within the park to cover a good portion of the preserve. There are lots of connecting trails and side trails that can be used to customize a longer or shorter hike if desired. The trails in Oak Ridge can also connect to the trails in Deer Run Forest Preserve located just to the north. The area is fairly undeveloped and remote but does offer restrooms and limited picnic areas. There is also canoe access to the Kishwaukee River.
