The trip from the Hancock boat access to Ridott is the longest of all the designated float trips along the Pecatonica River Water Trail system, running for a total of almost 16 miles. The Pecatonica River provides paddlers with some of the most remote and peaceful water for floating as it runs along tree-lined shores through open rural farmlands and greens spaces in northern Illinois. There is one dam about 10 miles into the run that may requires some portaging but other than that the river is slow, wide, and free of obstructions, making it a good choice for beginner paddlers. The take-out in Ridott is not a developed ramp but there is a fishing park along East River Road where boats can take out along the shore where it is most convenient.
