Located along oxbow ponds, marshes, wetlands, and upland forests of the Pecatonica River, this scenic forest preserve offers miles of trails excellent for enjoying nature. The preserve offers lots of diverse vegetation and excellent wildlife viewing and birdwatching opportunity. This hike utilizes multiple trails within the preserve to explore a large portion of the natural area. Some of the trails are limited to just hiking but there are sections that are accessible to snowmobilers during the winter. There are numerous connecting side and spur trails that can be used to customize a trip of a longer or shorter length. The preserve offers restrooms and picnic areas but is otherwise quite undeveloped and natural.
