This multi-use trail follows an old railway corridor from the Wisconsin/Illinois border down to the Kane County line at Algonquin, for a total of 26 miles. The trail also accesses multiple other trail systems throughout the area providing numerous riding options along the way. There are also multiple access points to the trail. The trail offers excellent and diverse scenery as it passes through both wilderness, rural, and busy suburban areas. Most of the trail is flat but there are a few minor hilly sections spread throughout. The beginning section of the trail from the Wisconsin border is hard-pack gravel and is better suited for mountain bikes so road bikes will want to start from Ringwood. The trail is multi-use so watch out for pedestrian traffic along the way.
