Running the Rock River from Grand Detour to Dixon offers excellent scenery that includes lots of rock formations and outcroppings, more so than anywhere else on the river. There are also lots of wooded banks and river islands. There is also some urban development to be seen, especially near the take-out in Dixon. The river is very flat and wide making it an easy, relaxing trip for paddlers of all skill levels. Be sure to pay attention when you see the bridge in Dixon and the warning buoys marking the take-out as there is a dam just bellow the take-out.
