This wildlife area located at the junction of the Sangamon River and Illinois River offers abundant paddling opportunity on its many small lakes, sloughs, and channels. The area is very primitive and remote and provides excellent opportunity for birdwatching and viewing other types of wildlife. Setting off from the boat ramp, paddlers can just explore the channel or head off into the many side sloughs and lakes that branch off. Pay attention to where you paddle as to not get lost. There is no canoeing allowed starting one week before waterfowl hunting season until February 1st.
