The Salt Creek is located in primarily developed, urbanized areas but still offers lots of nice scenery and some solitude as it runs through multiple forest preserves that make it feel more like a wilderness run. The Salt Creek is not very wide and there are lots of trees along the shoreline so downed trees and other obstructions are common and may require skillful navigation or portaging. Paddlers can take-out at Kiwanis Park just after the Brookfield Zoo or continue on just a short distance further to a take-out at the Plank Road Forest Preserve.
