This section of the Sangamon River not only offers beautiful and peaceful scenery all along the way, but it also ends at an excellent take-out spot at the village of Lincoln's New Salem, an area that is known for its character and history and makes for a fun place to visit. The river has a very mild current along this section with lots of good resting spots and sandbars making it a good option for paddlers of all skill levels out for a relaxing float.
