Setting out from Wheeland Park in the village of Riverton, this section of the Sangamon River provides lots of great scenery including sandstone cliffs, wooded shoreline, lots of bridges, and a few residential dwellings. The gradient is pretty mild with just a few short sections of small riffles and rapids but nothing too challenging. There are quite a few sandbars along this section of river, but the river is wide with very few logjams or obstructions making it an easy paddle. There are lots of sandbars. The put-in and take-out accesses both have developed boat ramps and parking areas making this section of the river easily accessible.
