This loop hike is completed by following sections of the North Branch Trail that travel through the southern half of the Skokie Lagoons down along the wooded banks of the Skokie River. The area offers a rugged and remote setting just 25 miles from busy downtown Chicago where hikers will enjoy lots of natural scenery and abundant wildlife. There are many side trails and connecting trails that give hikers the option of adding mileage and exploring more of the area. The trails are mostly dirt and gravel with some sections of pavement. The trails are multi-use and are popular with hikers and bikers so watch for others while on the trail.
