Putting in at the Knox Highway bridge just east of Maquon, this trip travels downstream along the Spoon River for almost 15 miles to the take-out at London Mills. The river meanders through rural farmland and open woodland terrain with very dwellings or signs of development along the way. The gradient is very mild and there is only minimal risk of serious obstructions making it a great option for paddlers of all skill levels. The take-out at London Hills is probably the best boat access on the river with a concrete boat ramp and lots of parking. The trip is long so be sure to get an early start.
