The hike through the hilly wetlands and marshes of Volo Bog is one of the more interesting and unique hiking experiences in Illinois. There is a visitor center and interpretive trail in the natural area that provides information regarding the unique terrain and diverse wildlife present there. Hikers will enjoy a great display of wildflowers and diverse vegetation as well as lots of wildlife and birdlife. The hike follows dirt trail, mowed grass trail, and boardwalks. The short interpretive trail is only open to hikers and the other larger loop trail is open to hikers and cross-country skiers. There are set operating hours for the trails and visitor center so call ahead before setting out.
