You will go by a limestone outcropping, a pretty cliff with a cave, wooded ridges and many clearings. Put in is about 100 yards downstream from the dam on a sandbar. There will be some riffles along the way, the river splits with a sandy island and it flows swiftly surrounded by bluffs. The takeout at Pictured Rocks Park, has plenty to explore on foot.
