The roads and the Great Western Trail are paved. The road traffic is light, and the rail to trail goes through beautiful farm country on a very smooth ride. The only variation on elevation is a downhill stretch. Very easy ride; in the hot summer months, plan on bringing your water and there are no facilities until you get into the cities.
