The downstream rapids shortly bellow the put in, should be ran through the center. You can also put in past the rapids if you don’t like the looks of it. When the water is low, shortly after the rapids, there is a pipe exposed, if that is the case, portage on the left. If you want to make this trip shorter, there is access at Peterson Park, on the river left, where it connects to a sandpit. At the dam, portage on the concrete to the right, there are limestone outcroppings that poke out on the left. The take out is on the river right downstream from the steel footbridge at River Valley Park and upstream from the dam.
