Cheney State Park contains a 9,600-acre reservoir and nearly 2,000 acres of land surrounding the lake. This trail traverses much of the park and crosses sandy terrain and a mixed grass prairie. There are numerous species of trees found near the waterways and you will also spot the occasional prickly pear cactus. Wildlife, such as beaver, woodpeckers, red-winged blackbirds, screech owls, pheasants, deer, turkeys, and coyotes are also present.
