This portion of the Cottonwood River is canopied by cottonwoods, sycamores, and willow as it passes through the Marion Wildlife Area on the west end of Marion Lake. Wildlife is abundant and it is not uncommon to spot quail, ducks, geese, mourning dove, cottontail rabbits, pheasants, squirrels, deer, and turkeys along with a wide variety of plants and birds that naturalists and birders will enjoy. The put-in is at the Highway 15 bridge. Park on the roadside and carry your boat down a steep embankment to the river. Take-out at the Broken Bridge Access Point or extend your trip to Marion Lake and take-out at the Durham Cove Boat Ramp.
