More than 15 miles of trail follow the flood-control levee and wind through woodlands along the Kansas River in northeast Lawrence. This trail follows the river east, then north and has a flat, hard-packed. From the trailhead, the first mile borders the backyards of several residential homes and once you leave the city the landscape is predominantly agricultural. With cultivated fields and pastures on the north side, several farms can be seen in the distance. Views to the south include the river and more croplands across the river. The sky is endless and the levee offers a great vantage point for expansive views. Street parking is available on Elm Street.
