This wonderful, rocky-bottom river flows over small ledges and gravel bars within the boundaries of the Elk City Wildlife Area. Sand and gravel bars are common and the riffles are nicely spaced throughout the first four miles. Thereafter, the river is a long, peaceful arm of Elk City Lake. The channel can become narrow through some of the riffles and downed trees and strainers often block the way. Wildlife is common and the scenery is spectacular. It takes a beautiful half-day to paddle from Elk City to Card Creek.
