Kanopolis Lake is located in the scenic setting of the Smoky Hill River Valley. Migrating waterfowl can be seen in spring and fall in many varieties, lizards and other reptiles, mule deer, beaver, raccoon, turkeys and prairie dogs are among some of the wildlife in the area. Scenery around the lake consists of prairie wildflowers, gorgeous sandstone formations including canyons and caves, rolling hills, and woods. With Kanopolis State Park adjacent to the lake, there are many hiking trails and other recreational opportunities.
