Kaw River State Park is the newest state park in Kansas, opened in 2010, and is the only urban type park in the state park system. The park offers forested trails for hiking, running, and mountain biking and as well as access to the Kaw River. This trail winds through an extensive oak-hickory forest on steep slopes with great views. Deer, turkey, and numerous other wildlife species are common as well as eagles and various species of waterfowl in the winter.
