Located in the Butler State Fishing Lake and Wildlife Area, Butler State Lake is located four miles northwest of Latham. It is a 124-acre lake that is surrounded by 196 acres of Flint Hills prairie. Fishing is good and includes Largemouth Bass, Channel Catfish, Bluegill, and Redear Sunfish. The scenery consists of mostly native grass with some dense wooded vegetation at the upper end of the lake along the creek bottoms. Wildlife that is commonly seen includes quail, deer, turkey, and waterfowl.
