The Republican River was named after a band of Pawnee Indians who were regarded as having a republican form of government. This section of the river is above Milford Lake and is a beautiful stretch that is rich in wildlife. It takes you through the 19,000-acre Milford Wildlife Area where the scenery is gorgeous and there is an abundance of plants and animals to observe. The river bottom is mostly sandy and there is good fishing available. The take-out is on the north end of Milford Lake.
