Lake Scott State Park is a hidden oasis within a western Kansas prairie. It is filled with natural springs, deep wooded canyons, and craggy bluffs. Scott Lake is nestled among the picturesque hills and is the main feature of the park. A rich history accompanies the scenic splendor of the park and of this trail including the Steele Homestead Museum, El Cuartelejo Indian Pueblo, and the Battle of Punished Woman’s Fork. This hike circles the lake and most of the park, offering great views of the water, passing the ruins, the museum, cutting through forested areas and pretty rocks and canyons. This hike is very comprehensive of what the park has to offer and allows a great overview. There is little shade on the hike and in the summer months the heat can be overwhelming.
