Baxter State Park is a rugged protected wilderness area that is located in the North Maine Woods and consists of over 200,000 acres of rugged and scenic terrain. The park offers visitors over 200 miles of hiking trails and almost 350 campsites spread throughout different areas of the park. Katahdin Stream Campground is a popular family campground that sits within proximity to some of the best hiking trails. The campground includes both tent sites and lean-to sites that are equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and dispersed vault toilets. There is no drinking water available within the park. Fees are $17-$32 per night depending on the time of year. There are some group sites available as well that start at $48 per night. Reservations are available for some sites but must be made by phone directly through the park.
