Baxter State Park is a rugged protected wilderness park located in the North Maine Woods that includes over 200,000 acres of dense forest, clear lakes, and mountain peaks. The park offers visitors over 200 miles of hiking trails and almost 350 campsites spread throughout different areas of the park. South Branch Campground is situated on the northern shoreline of the pond and offers access to multiple hiking trails. The campground includes tent sites, lean-to sites, and an 8-person bunkhouse. Sites are equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and dispersed vault toilets. There is no drinking water available within the park. Fees are $17-$32 per night depending on the time of year. Bunkhouses are $20 per person. Reservations are available for some sites but must be made by phone directly through the park.
